When You're About to Menopause and Not Ready for It



Menopause is a normal condition for aging women when their menstrual period stop permanently which means they're no longer be able to bear children. There's a stigma connected to the menopause wherein it's far viewed as a time while a female is growing old and less appealing than before.Menopause is a word that most women hate or fear, the reason is obvious because menopause is a clear sign of aging.

Menopause normally occurs to women in their late 40s and early 50s and most women admit that they are not ready for it. Monthly period is annoying but thinking that we're gonna miss it due to aging is not going the give us a relief.  Before menopause, a woman's periods usually grow to be irregular, which means that periods may be longer or shorter in period or be lighter or heavier in the amount of flow. Once the monthly period stops for 12 consecutive months, then this is what experts define as menopause.

I am not an expert and I am 10 years far from the perimenopausal stage, but I am preparing myself that it could happen to me earlier than I can expect as I had my first period as early as 11 years old and this article is one way for me to get ready for it. 

I've read different articles about menopause and I've found some interesting posts about menopause, symptoms, how to deal with it and why women should not fear of its occurrence.

Signs and Symptoms

Some of the most common symptoms of perimenopause ( leading up to menopause)  are:


  • Irregular periods
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Sleep problems
  • Mood changes
  • Weight gain and slowed metabolism
  • Thinning hair and dry skin
  • Loss of breast fullness
  • Tension
I've also learned that starting at perimenopause, a woman should schedule regular visits with her doctor for preventive health care and any medical concerns and getting these appointments during and after menopause should continue.

How to Deal with Menopause

An irregular period can be an advantage to women as long as it does not give you any irritable feeling, so just enjoy freedom.

Vaginal dryness due to declined hormones can be treated with water-based lubricants or vaginal moisturizers and compounds in soybeans and soy products also believes to giving some relief from vaginal dryness

As hot flash is very common in menopausal stage, it is advised that you track down the causes. Some common causes of flash are a hot environment, drinking caffeine and alcohol, stress and tension. Avoid these things to lessen the flashes effects. 

Night Sweats -  people who experience night sweats will normally wake in the night to discover their bedclothes and bedding splashed, regardless of the possibility that their room temperature is cool. To avoid this, drink plenty of water every waking time.

Sleep Problems - this is common and sometimes really hard to deal with. To avoid sleep problems at night, minimize the day sleeping habit. Avoid over thinking and stress that could normally cause sleeping problems, It is also believed that drinking 1 glass of warm milk before bed-time could help you sleep better at night.

Mood Change - avoid anything that could swing your moods, surround yourself with people you love, children and grandchildren could help a lot to make you feel better.

Weight Gain and Metabolism is normal to aging people, this is the best time to do routine exercise, a simple walking in the morning is a great way to make your body system function better. Eat vegetables and fruits, plenty of water and always, always avoid fatty and junk foods.

Thinning Hair and Dry Skin - Thinning hair can be cured with some alternative remedies like onions and honey hair wrap, taking Vitamin E, Egg and Olive oil plus honey hair wrap, putting moisturizing lotion on skin, drinking plenty of water and anything related to alternative hair and skin care could lessen the hair fall and maintain skin moisture.

Loss of  Breast and Fullness - although this is unavoidable but there's a lot of  youtube video exercise  that target having a firm and full breast.

Tension - hormonal imbalance is the primary cause of muscle tension in women approaching menopause. Karen Reed of Positive Health Wellness shares the 7 Tips to Stop Tension Headaches, an interesting post where she mentioned some tips that will help you add more peace in your life, relax your muscles, and get rid of the pain.


During this crucial stage, education is really important. If you have no idea what was going on with you. it's best to be prepared in understanding. You can also help lessen the severity of symptoms if you take care of yourself by getting adequate sleep, good nutrition, high-quality vitamin supplements, exercise and most of all, avoid stress.

There are lots of good books and helpful articles on menopause and perimenopause to read online, all you have to do is be resourceful.
